NEWNAN, GA — Monday, November 24, 2025 — A 37-year-old man from Guatemala, Ruben Lemus Arana, was killed on November 17 in a tragic two-vehicle collision on Interstate 85 in Coweta County, approximately three miles south of Newnan. According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Arana was driving a 2001 Toyota 4Runner, which was towing a Honda Civic, when his vehicle was rear-ended by a 2024 Mack garbage compactor truck near mile marker 38 around 11 p.m. The force of the impact caused the 4Runner and the towed Civic to separate and veer into the median. Arana was tragically thrown from his overturning vehicle and died at the scene. The GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is currently conducting a full investigation into the fatal accident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
The incident, which involved a commercial vehicle rear-ending a passenger vehicle, highlights the serious dangers posed by large trucks. Nationally, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) reported that 4,764 people died in crashes involving large trucks in 2022, underscoring the severity of these incidents. Furthermore, rear-end crashes are among the most common types of collisions, often caused by distracted driving, which the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says accounts for nearly 29% of all U.S. collisions.
Candice Bond, a highly regarded national legal analyst and Managing Partner at Bond Legal, stressed the complexities inherent in these cases. “In cases such as this, where a large commercial truck is involved, families face opponents like trucking companies who quickly mobilize their own investigative resources,” Bond stated. She emphasized that a skilled attorney is necessary to protect the victim’s family, often requiring the use of accident reconstruction teams to meticulously piece together the events that led to the collision. These thorough investigations are crucial for helping clients secure monetary compensation for their losses.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Following the conclusion of the official investigation and if driver negligence is determined to be a cause, the family of Ruben Arana may be advised to file a wrongful death claim. A wrongful death claim seeks damages for the loss of a loved one caused by the reckless or negligent actions of another party.
Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News, explained that families often face severe emotional trauma and unanticipated financial burdens in the aftermath of such a loss. Formica noted that in cases such as this, the claim aims to recover damages for funeral expenses, the loss of Mr. Arana’s future earnings, and the profound emotional loss of companionship and support experienced by his survivors. “The objective of a wrongful death attorney is to meticulously evaluate the full impact of the loss and vigorously pursue compensation on the family’s behalf, ensuring they are treated fairly by all responsible parties,” Formica said.
