BAIRD, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal rollover crash that claimed the life of a 79-year-old Cisco woman.
The accident occurred at 5:01 p.m. on June 6, approximately eight miles east of Baird.
A 2001 GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling east on Interstate 20 when it veered off the roadway. The driver attempted to correct course by steering right. The maneuver caused the pickup to skid across the roadway and overturn.
Rosa Escobedo, a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected from the pickup during the rollover and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 78-year-old female driver from Brownwood sustained non-incapacitating injuries. Emergency personnel transported her to Hendrick Medical Center in stable condition.
A preliminary investigation indicated the accident began when the driver failed to stay in a single lane. DPS continues to investigate the incident.
