SACRAMENTO, CA, December 24, 2025 – A small aircraft crash on Christmas Eve in Sacramento claimed the life of a 70-year-old West Sacramento man, according to federal and local authorities.
The victim was identified as Ronnie Metcalf. The Federal Aviation Administration reported that Metcalf was a passenger aboard a 1966 fixed-wing single-engine plane that departed Rio Linda Airport shortly before the crash.
The aircraft went down in a field near the intersection of Claire Avenue and Rio Linda Boulevard, west of Sacramento McClellan Airport, at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Sacramento Fire Department crews said Metcalf was trapped inside the wreckage and had to be cut free. Firefighters initially believed he had died at the scene but were able to restore a pulse through CPR before transporting him to a hospital. Officials have not confirmed the exact time of his death.
