Ron Dykes, Roxanne Mowrey Among 5 die in Marble Falls TX Collision

MARBLE FALLS, TX, (May 17, 2026) – Five people were killed Sunday evening in a devastating three-vehicle crash along U.S. 281 in Marble Falls, according to local authorities.

The Marble Falls Police Department said the collision occurred at approximately 5 p.m. in the 3100 block of South U.S. 281. Preliminary findings indicate that a northbound black Nissan pickup crossed the median into the southbound lanes, sideswiping a white BMW hatchback before colliding head-on with a silver Hyundai hatchback.

Authorities identified two of the victims as Ron Dykes, 55, and Roxanne Mowrey, 50, who were occupants of the Hyundai. Both were pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision.

Police also confirmed that the driver of the Nissan pickup, along with a 5-year-old girl and a 3-year-old girl traveling in the vehicle, died in the crash.

The occupants of the BMW were not injured, officials said.

Emergency responders and deputies from the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office assisted Marble Falls police at the scene as traffic was diverted for several hours during the investigation and cleanup operations.

Investigators continue working to determine what caused the Nissan pickup to cross the median. No additional details have been released.

HEAD-ON CRASH INVESTIGATION

Head-on collisions are frequently linked to driver-related factors. However, these crashes may also stem from speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, roadway conditions, inexperienced motorists, or driver confusion.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 40,901 people lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes across the United States in 2023, representing a 4.3% decrease from 2022 and marking the second straight year of declining fatalities.

“Investigators will examine several possible contributing factors, including roadway conditions, visibility, and lighting,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“In certain cases, accident reconstruction specialists are called in to determine exactly how a collision occurred. These efforts are often essential in helping victims and families pursue compensation for damages and losses after a serious crash,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

As the investigation continues, the family members of a victim may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving relatives in wrongful death cases can seek compensation for emotional suffering, loss of companionship, and other damages resulting from a serious or fatal collision.

“The grief and emotional burden families face after suddenly losing a loved one in an accident can be devastating,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We recognize the difficult challenges families endure during these situations, and protecting their legal rights is extremely important. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation while helping families safeguard their interests throughout the legal process,” Formica added.
