ROME, GA, (November 23, 2025) — A bicyclist was seriously injured Sunday in Rome after being struck by a vehicle driven by an alleged impaired motorist who fled the scene, police reported.
Authorities said the victim was riding along Highway 101 when the vehicle, driven by 56-year-old Velta Yvonne Rule, crossed over the white line and hit the bicyclist. The rider suffered significant injuries, including a broken hip, concussion, and a possible brain bleed.
Investigators said Rule fled following the crash. She was later located by police and found to be impaired at the time. Rule is charged with hit and run, serious injury by vehicle, DUI, and failure to maintain lane. The investigation is ongoing.
