Roberto Gutierrez Struck by SUV in Jefferson City, Driver Fled

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, (June 29, 2026) – Police in Jefferson City are searching for a driver who struck two pedestrians and fled the scene Monday morning.

According to authorities, the two men were hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Idlewood and Route C at approximately 10:49 a.m. The driver left the scene immediately following the collision. Investigators noted that the suspect vehicle’s passenger-side mirror was damaged in the crash.

Roberto Gutierrez, 36, of Columbia, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. A second victim, a 32-year-old man also from Columbia, suffered moderate injuries and was likewise transported.

Police describe the suspect vehicle as a white Lincoln SUV driven by a woman with dark hair.

Anyone with information about the crash or the suspect vehicle is asked to contact the Jefferson City Police Department.

HIT-AND-RUN INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Fleeing the scene of an accident is a criminal offense, and statistics indicate that approximately 11 percent of all crashes involve a driver who leaves the scene. In many instances, at-fault drivers assume they can escape accountability by fleeing, but they will ultimately face charges once identified.

Attorney Candice Bond stressed the importance of launching a swift, independent investigation to safeguard a victim’s rights. “Having access to the right resources is critical when investigating a hit-and-run case and establishing negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Factors such as road conditions, the visibility of signage, and street lighting must all be thoroughly examined. These steps are essential in helping a victim of a hit-and-run driver obtain the justice and financial compensation they rightfully deserve.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the results of an investigation, a victim may be entitled to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, noted that the stress caused by an injury can be overwhelming, affecting every aspect of life — including family, work, finances, and overall quality of life.

“It’s essential for victims to retain an attorney when pursuing a personal injury claim, as it allows them to properly negotiate with insurance companies on their behalf,” Formica said.

“Insurance companies frequently attempt to pressure victims into accepting a quick settlement for far less than their case is actually worth. An attorney, however, will fight vigorously for their clients to ensure they’re treated fairly and compensated appropriately.”
