SHREVEPORT, La. — A man died in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 220 during rainy conditions on July 3.
Just before 5:30 p.m., a blue Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling west on I-220 near the Interstate 49 interchange when it hydroplaned on the wet roadway. The vehicle crossed the median and hit a guardrail before sliding into the eastbound lanes.
Robert Rougeau, 58, of Benton, was driving east when the truck collided with his vehicle. The force of the crash propelled Rougeau’s car back across the median, through westbound traffic, and into a concrete barrier.
Shreveport Fire Department crews extracted Rougeau from his vehicle, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Debris from the collision also damaged a third vehicle.
Police transported the pickup truck driver to a hospital, where that individual voluntarily submitted to blood testing. The DWI Unit is handling that aspect of the investigation.
The crash remains under active investigation by Shreveport police.
