RALEIGH, NC, (May 04, 2026) – A 59-year-old pedestrian was killed early Monday morning in a hit-and-run crash in Raleigh, according to the Raleigh Police Department.
Authorities said Robert Jackson Henderson was walking along the right shoulder of South Wilmington Street at approximately 3:26 a.m. when he was struck by a blue Honda CR-V.
Following the initial impact, Henderson fell from a bridge onto South Saunders Street below, where he was subsequently struck by multiple passing vehicles.
Police said the driver of the CR-V, later identified as Chandler Evan Brown, 22, abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled on foot.
Henderson sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Brown was later apprehended and now faces multiple charges, including felony hit-and-run, felony death by vehicle, driving while impaired (DWI), failure to maintain lane control, and failure to reduce speed.
The incident remains under active investigation.
