Robert Fucilla Killed in La Prairie Chain-reaction Accident on Hwy 11

LA PRAIRIE, WI, (April 28, 2026) — An 80-year-old California man was killed following a multi-vehicle crash at a busy intersection in the Town of La Prairie, according to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the collision occurred at the intersection of East Highway 11, Beloit Avenue, and County G.

Investigators reported that a 48-year-old Janesville man was traveling north on County G and attempted to turn west onto Highway 11. At the same time, a truck driven by a 32-year-old Beloit man was traveling south on Beloit Avenue and entered the intersection, striking the side of another vehicle.

The victim, identified as Robert L. Fucilla of San Mateo, California, was a passenger in the Janesville driver’s vehicle. Officials said he became trapped inside the wreckage and had to be extricated by emergency responders.

Fucilla was transported to Mercy Hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities said neither driver involved has been publicly identified as the investigation continues.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Office remains active in determining the circumstances of the collision.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Numerous factors contribute to the rising number of traffic fatalities, but driver behavior—including speeding, impaired driving, and distracted driving, especially cellphone use—remains a leading cause. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported 8,055 deaths in motor vehicle collisions during the first quarter of 2025.

While authorities continue to investigate the cause and liability of the crash, Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and an experienced accident attorney, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation led by a qualified attorney.

“In addition to the thorough efforts of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview key witnesses, review any available surveillance footage from the crash site, and obtain phone and text records from the at-fault party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Time is critical in cases such as this, and families must ensure that all evidence is preserved and reviewed promptly,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Robert Fucilla may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other losses resulting from a fatal crash.

“The grief and emotional distress after losing a loved one in a tragic accident can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the difficulties families face, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will stay informed on the investigation and ensure the family’s legal interests are fully protected,” Formica added.
