Robert French dies after bicycle crash in Calistoga CA report says

CALISTOGA, CA – April 11, 2026 – A 79-year-old man died early Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in Calistoga, California, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials identified the victim as Robert French of Calistoga.

Authorities said the collision occurred around 6:35 a.m. near Dunaweal Lane and Silverado Trail. Preliminary findings indicate French was riding east along the north shoulder of Dunaweal Lane when he entered the eastbound lanes and was struck by a Ford Mustang.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but French was pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries.

Investigators have not yet released additional details regarding what led to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Bicyclists face unique dangers on roads primarily designed for motor vehicle traffic. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), bicycle fatalities in the United States increased by 4.4% in 2023, reaching 1,166—the highest level recorded since at least 1980.

“Cyclists are especially vulnerable on roadways, and numerous factors can contribute to serious crashes,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and experienced bicycle accident attorney.

“It is critical to determine the exact cause of such collisions. Attorneys have access to resources to review insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and locate witnesses. We also guide families through every stage of the legal process.”

Bond added that independent investigations should begin as early as possible to preserve crucial evidence. “Alongside police reports, attorneys carefully evaluate all contributing factors in the crash,” she said.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of any investigation, the family members of Robert French may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families in such cases may seek damages for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and the profound impact of losing a loved one in a tragic accident.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, stated: “Grieving families are often overwhelmed by the legal processes involved in protecting their rights.”

“An attorney can serve as a compassionate advocate, guiding families through the legal system and helping ensure they receive the justice and compensation they are entitled to.”
