DEER PARK, Ill. — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal accident involving two vehicles that left one person dead and another seriously injured. Officials said a Jeep Wrangler attempted a left turn and struck a classic car.
Authorities said the accident happened May 18 at approximately 10:20 a.m. at Lake Cook Road and Ferndale Road. Emergency personnel arrived to find two vehicles with major damage and two people critically injured.
Officials identified the deceased as Robert Clauss, 71. He was driving a 1985 Alfa Romeo westbound on Lake Cook Road when a Jeep Wrangler, driven by a 75-year-old man, turned left into his path. Clauss was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room.
A 63-year-old woman from Mount Prospect, who was a passenger in the Alfa Romeo, was also transported to an area hospital. She remains in serious but stable condition.
The driver of the Jeep sustained minor injuries and is cooperating with investigators. The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact law enforcement.
