ORLAND PARK, Ill. — Orland Park police have charged a 41-year-old Tinley Park man in connection with a hit-and-run crash May 31 that claimed the life of a Romeoville man.
The crash happened shortly after 3 a.m. at an intersection in the 15900 block of S. Harlem Avenue. Tinley Park police notified Orland Park police about the two-vehicle wreck.
Police said Robert Barajar faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident, reckless homicide, disobeying a traffic signal, and speeding 26 miles per hour over the posted limit. They arrested Barajar without incident.
Officers determined Barajar was driving southbound on Harlem Avenue when his vehicle struck another car. A 23-year-old Romeoville resident was driving west on 159th Street when the crash occurred. That driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. He succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
Police did not disclose the identity of the victim.
Police said Barajar fled the scene on foot after hitting the victim’s car. He did not render aid or notify authorities of the crash.
The accident remains under investigation by Orland Park police.
