INDIO, CA, (April 26, 2026) – A 22-year-old Riverside man, identified as Elvis Ponce Jr., was killed Sunday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Indio involving a driver suspected of being impaired, according to police.
Authorities said the collision occurred shortly after 7:10 p.m. at the intersection of Avenue 44 and Arabia Street. Early reports indicate that Ponce was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla that collided head-on with a Honda Accord.
Ponce was pronounced dead at the scene. Three occupants of the Honda—a 31-year-old man, a 33-year-old woman, and their 8-year-old son—were transported to hospitals for treatment. Additionally, another individual found unconscious near the Toyota was also taken to a medical facility.
Police said the 27-year-old driver of the Corolla fled the scene on foot but was later located on Arabia Street and taken into custody.
