Richard Staten Hurt in Ashley County Hwy 133 Freightliner Crash

ASHLEY, AR, (September 15, 2026) – Richard Staten, 63, of Alexandria, was injured Tuesday evening in a two-vehicle accident in rural Ashley County.

According to the Arkansas Department of Public Safety, Staten was driving a 2024 Freightliner northbound on Highway 133 while a 2014 Nissan Altima was traveling east on Ashley 15.

The collision occurred around 8:13 p.m. when the Nissan driver, a 59-year-old woman from Crossett, failed to stop at the intersection and was struck by the Freightliner.

Staten sustained injuries and was transported to LSU Ochsner for treatment. The Nissan driver died in the wreck.

The weather was clear, and the roadway was dry when the crash occurred.

TWO-VEHICLE CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The Ashley County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.

Traffic laws require drivers to stop at posted stop signs. However, some motorists fail to follow these requirements, which can contribute to crashes such as this one.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, approximately 40 percent of car collisions occur at road intersections, with running a stop sign or stoplight often cited as a cause. Impatience, reckless driving, and distracted driving are among the reasons some motorists may fail to stop at signs.

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, noted that in cases like this, an independent investigation by a seasoned lawyer is imperative to protect a victim’s family’s rights. Bond also noted that beginning the process as soon as possible can help preserve evidence.

“In addition to the diligent work of police, an attorney will carefully review what may have contributed to the crash,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“Your lawyer has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct drivers’ background checks, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a victim during this difficult time while protecting their legal rights and best interests,” said Bond, who is a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, Richard Staten may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, noted that the stress and concern following a serious injury can be overwhelming and may disrupt many areas of life, including family, work, finances, and overall quality of life.

“It is vital for victims to hire an attorney when filing a personal injury claim, which allows them to negotiate with an insurance company on behalf of a client,” Formica said.

“Insurance companies often try to pressure victims to settle for a quick payout for far less than the case is worth. However, an attorney will vigorously advocate for their client to ensure that they are treated with respect and compensated fairly.”
