Richard Meades killed in NC motorcycle vs Jeep collision

GREENSBORO, NC, (April 28, 2026) – A 48-year-old motorcyclist lost his life Tuesday evening following a collision involving a Jeep in Greensboro, authorities said.

According to the Greensboro Police Department, the crash occurred around 7:45 p.m. in the 700 block of Creek Ridge Road. Richard Lee Meades was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound when it collided with a Jeep Gladiator that had just exited a parking lot and was attempting to travel east.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, where Meades was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Jeep was evaluated following the crash and was not injured.

Officials have not released the cause of the collision, and no citations have been issued at this time. The incident remains under investigation by Greensboro Police.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

In 2023, motorcycle fatalities in the U.S. reached 6,335, accounting for 15% of all traffic-related deaths, marking the highest number since 1975, according to the NHTSA. With a fatality rate of 31.39 per 100 million miles traveled, improving driver awareness and road safety measures remains essential.

“Motorcyclists are some of the most vulnerable individuals on the road,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “Even relatively minor crashes can lead to severe or fatal injuries, which is why all drivers must exercise caution.”

Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney, stressed that in incidents like this, it is important to have an independent investigation conducted by an experienced lawyer to protect the rights of the victim’s family.

“Limited visibility, driver inexperience, and distracted driving are common contributors to these types of accidents,” Bond added. “An attorney can serve as an advocate for the family, helping guide them through a difficult time while ensuring accountability if traffic laws were violated.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

As the investigation continues, the family of Richard Meades may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving relatives can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages resulting from such a tragic incident.

“The grief and emotional burden following the loss of a loved one can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face in these circumstances, and protecting their legal rights is critical. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests are represented,” Formica added.
