DOOLY COUNTY, Ga. — Georgia State Patrol investigators are looking for a suspect in a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian early June 17 along Interstate 75.
Richard Alan Dykes of Cochran was standing near his vehicle on the shoulder of southbound I-75 around 6 a.m. when authorities believe a tractor-trailer drifted out of its lane and struck him near milepost 109. The location is close to Exit 109 in Vienna.
The truck driver fled the scene without stopping, according to state patrol officials. Investigators believe the suspect vehicle is an 18-wheeler that would have sustained damage to its right-side headlight from the impact.
Troopers think the truck continued traveling south on I-75 after the crash occurred. The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team from Troop H has taken over the investigation.
Officials are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about a damaged semi-truck to contact the Troop H Radio Room at 229-386-3333. Investigators particularly seek any video footage or details that could help identify the vehicle or driver involved.
