Reynaldo Porras Fatally Hit on W. Lutcher Drive, Orange Police Say

ORANGE, TX, January 06, 2026 – Orange police are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred Tuesday evening on W. Lutcher Drive.

Authorities said Reynaldo Porras, 62, was struck by a vehicle shortly after 7 p.m. in the 3900 block of W. Lutcher Drive. Porras was later pronounced dead. Police noted that the driver involved stopped at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death. No arrests or charges have been filed at this time.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

This tragic incident highlights the daily risks pedestrians face on roadways across the country.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 7,522 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in 2022, the highest total since 1981. That year, pedestrian deaths accounted for roughly 17 percent of all traffic fatalities, reflecting a concerning rise in pedestrian danger nationwide.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are among the factors that are reviewed when evaluating a pedestrian crash,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“In some cases, accident reconstruction specialists are brought in to help determine how a collision occurred. These resources play an important role in helping victims or their families pursue compensation for losses resulting from a crash,” said Bond, an experienced pedestrian attorney.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a motorist’s responsibility to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of Reynaldo Porras may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Relatives of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral costs, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident,” Formica said.

By serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide a grieving family through the legal process while safeguarding their rights.

“Insurance companies frequently attempt to pressure families into accepting quick settlements that may not reflect the true value of a claim,” Formica added. “An attorney can push back against these tactics and work to ensure clients are treated fairly and fully compensated.”
