NCSHP: Reyes Valadez Injured in Kenly Failure-to-yield Crash

KENLY, NC, (May 21, 2026) – A three-vehicle collision Thursday morning near Kenly left two people hospitalized, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP).

Authorities said the crash occurred around 7:06 a.m. at the intersection of Hinnant-Edgerton Road and Little Road when a Honda Accord attempted to make a left turn and failed to yield the right of way.

Investigators stated that the Honda collided with a black Cadillac Escalade driven by Reyes Salvador Mendoza Valadez, 45, of Princeton. Following the impact, the Escalade overturned and traveled off the right side of the roadway.

Valadez was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency responders transported him to WakeMed in Raleigh for treatment.

Officials also said debris from the collision struck a GMC pickup truck that had been stopped on the roadway. The driver of the Honda was also taken to the hospital and later cited for failure to yield the right of way.

The crash remains under investigation by the NCSHP.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

As authorities continue to investigate the collision, Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, said that independent investigations are often crucial in protecting the rights of victims involved in serious crashes.

“Roadway conditions, visibility, and lighting are among the many factors that investigators carefully review after a crash,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “In some cases, accident reconstruction specialists are needed to determine exactly how the collision occurred. These resources are important in helping victims pursue compensation for injuries, damages, or losses resulting from an accident.”

Motor vehicle accidents injure approximately 1.9 million people annually across the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, common causes of crashes include speeding, impaired driving involving alcohol or drugs, distracted driving, improper lane usage, and failure to yield the right of way.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, Reyes Salvador Mendoza Valadez may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim seeking compensation for medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost income, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

“Injured victims involved in serious collisions often pursue personal injury claims to help recover expenses tied to their recovery,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal. “Insurance companies are often unconcerned with the growing financial burden victims may face. An attorney can help. We work daily to protect victims of these tragedies and hold insurance companies accountable for their mistakes.”
