Redding motorcycle Crash: Shyla Watson-Barker Arrested for DUI

REDDING, CA, (July 01, 2026) – A woman was arrested Wednesday morning after a crash that left a motorcyclist critically injured in Redding, according to police.

Redding police say a 23-year-old man was riding a motorcycle south on State Route 273 at approximately 9:40 a.m. when a Lexus SUV turned in front of him. Unable to avoid the vehicle, the motorcyclist collided with the SUV and was ejected from his bike, police said.

The motorcyclist, whose name has not been released, was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Redding for treatment.

Investigators identified the driver of the Lexus as 66-year-old Shyla Watson-Barker of Redding. She was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury and felony DUI causing injury with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher.

The crash occurred near Kenyon Road. Redding police continue to investigate.

MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, has emphasized the importance of having experienced attorneys carry out comprehensive, independent investigations following any type of accident.

Such investigations examine every possible contributing factor in a crash. A wide range of variables can play a role, including driver error, impairment, and road conditions.

Motorcyclists face heightened danger on U.S. roadways. They are frequently overlooked by other drivers, putting them at serious risk of injury upon impact.

“Motorcycle accident victims injured due to a negligent driver’s actions have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit, through which they may recover compensation for their damages,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “It’s difficult to overstate how important it is to reach out to and retain a personal injury attorney. Attorneys have a duty to support victims whose lives have been abruptly upended. Our mission is to help those affected work toward rebuilding a sense of normalcy following a sudden and traumatic accident.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the injured motorcyclist may be entitled to file a personal injury claim, seeking damages for medical and rehabilitation expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following this sudden and traumatic accident.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, has emphasized the importance of legal representation for those victimized in an accident.

“The stress and grief can feel utterly overwhelming when you, a friend, or a family member has suffered a personal injury or lost a loved one in an accident,” Formica said. “We understand the hardships victims face, and protecting their rights is essential. A personal injury attorney stays closely informed on the official investigation to help ensure their legal rights and best interests remain protected.”
