Rebecca Allen killed in McLennan County Hwy 164 accident, DPS says

MCLENNAN, TX, (April 16, 2026) — A deadly multi-vehicle crash on State Highway 164 in McLennan County Thursday morning claimed the lives of two people, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Authorities identified one of the victims as 64-year-old Rebecca L. Allen of Waco. The crash occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m., about three miles west of Mart.

Investigators said a Nissan Sentra crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and collided head-on with Allen’s Ford Escape. A third vehicle, believed to be a Nissan Rogue, was also involved in the collision.

Both Allen and the driver of the Nissan Sentra were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan Rogue sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and officials have not yet determined why the Sentra veered into oncoming traffic.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Head-on crashes are among the most hazardous types of roadway incidents. Each year in the U.S., vehicles crossing the centerline are responsible for thousands of fatal collisions, accounting for 2% of crashes but nearly 10% of all fatalities, according to NHTSA and IIHS data. These types of crashes are categorized as roadway departure accidents, which represent 51% of traffic-related deaths, based on FHWA data from 2016 to 2018.

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, emphasized that in cases like this, an independent investigation is critical to safeguarding the rights of victims’ families. “Time is crucial in these cases, and families must act quickly to ensure that all evidence is preserved and properly reviewed,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

According to Bond, accident reconstruction specialists are often essential in determining the exact sequence of events. “These professional resources play a key role in helping families pursue financial compensation for their loss,” she added.

“An attorney also serves as a strong advocate, offering guidance and ensuring that the family’s legal rights are protected throughout the process,” Bond said.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family members of Rebecca L. Allen may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages resulting from a tragic accident.

“The emotional toll after losing a loved one in a crash can be devastating,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“Families often face overwhelming grief and uncertainty, making it essential to ensure their legal rights are fully protected. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation closely and advocate for the best interests of the family,” Bond added.

An experienced attorney is committed to helping families navigate the legal process after a sudden and tragic loss.
