Rebeca Hidalgo dies after SUV struck on I-355 in Addison DUI accident

ADDISON, IL, (May 01, 2026) – A 65-year-old woman was killed and two others injured Friday evening in a crash involving an alleged impaired driver in Addison, according to Illinois State Police.

Authorities said Rebeca Hidalgo was traveling in a Lexus SUV with her two adult children when their vehicle was struck by a Ford F-150 driven by Adolfo Carrillo, 50, of Cicero.

Investigators reported that Carrillo was traveling at a high rate of speed when he abruptly crossed multiple lanes of traffic and collided with the passenger side of the Lexus. The crash occurred just before 6 p.m. near the Army Trail Road merge onto northbound Interstate 355.

Hidalgo was transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Her two children were also hospitalized with unspecified injuries.

Carrillo has been charged with a felony count of aggravated DUI causing death, along with several misdemeanor offenses, including DUI and speeding.

The incident remains under investigation.

FATAL DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION NEEDED

According to the State’s Attorney’s Office, troopers observed signs of impairment in Carrillo, including bloodshot eyes and the odor of alcohol. A Breathalyzer test administered at 7:30 p.m. reportedly showed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .098, exceeding the legal limit of .08.

Hidalgo’s death highlights the ongoing dangers posed by impaired driving. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that nearly 30 people die each day in the United States due to drunk-driving crashes—equivalent to one death every 50 minutes. Annually, these incidents account for more than 10,000 fatalities.

Authorities note that a thorough, independent investigation may uncover additional contributing factors in the crash.

Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, commented on cases like this.

“Beyond any criminal proceedings, a victim’s family may have the right to seek compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Alongside law enforcement efforts, an attorney can re-examine witnesses, review surveillance footage, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party. Acting as an advocate, legal counsel can help guide grieving families through the process, safeguard their rights, and ensure accountability for reckless behavior.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the family of Rebeca Hidalgo may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim for damages including medical and funeral costs, loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

“A wrongful death occurs when an individual or entity engages in negligent or wrongful conduct that results in someone’s death,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “In cases where fatal crashes are caused by unsafe behaviors such as speeding, aggressive driving, distraction, or driving under the influence, families often have the option to file a civil claim against the at-fault driver.”
