Randall Waters dies after hit-and-run in Washington GA

WASHINGTON, GA, (March 28, 2026) — A 61-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash Saturday night in Washington County, authorities said.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Randall Waters was struck shortly before 9 p.m. by a white Ford Focus traveling westbound in the 500 block of Waco Mill Road.

Investigators said the vehicle crossed the dividing line before hitting Waters. After the impact, the car crashed into a parked semi-trailer, and the driver fled the scene on foot.

Waters was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

The suspect, believed to be a 22-year-old man, remains at large and is wanted for vehicular homicide, hit and run, speeding, and failure to maintain lane.

Anyone with information is urged to contact authorities at 478-552-4795. The case remains under investigation.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Leaving the scene of an accident is a criminal offense, yet statistics show that approximately 11 percent of all crashes involve a hit-and-run driver.

In many cases, at-fault drivers attempt to evade responsibility by fleeing. However, once identified and apprehended, they can face serious charges.

According to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), an estimated 7,148 pedestrians were killed on U.S. roadways in 2024, including 280 in Georgia.

“Having the proper resources is essential to thoroughly investigate a pedestrian accident and establish negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney.

“Factors such as road conditions, visibility, and lighting must all be carefully reviewed,” Bond added.

“An accident reconstruction team may be required to determine exactly what occurred. These resources are vital in helping victims’ families obtain compensation for their losses,” said Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is generally the responsibility of drivers to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of Randall Waters may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Families of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and emotional distress following a tragic accident,” Formica said.

Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide a grieving family through this difficult time while ensuring their rights are protected.

“Insurance companies often attempt to push victims toward quick settlements that may be far less than what the case is worth,” Formica added. “An attorney will strongly advocate on behalf of their client to ensure fair treatment and appropriate compensation.”
