Data from the Governors Highway Safety Association shows an estimated 7,318 pedestrian fatalities occurred in the United States in 2023. While this number represents a decline from the numbers reported in 2022, pedestrian fatalities remained 14 percent above pre-pandemic levels.

Since 2010, pedestrian deaths have surged by 77 percent, far outpacing the 22 percent increase seen in overall traffic fatalities during the same period.
