Ralph Fulmore Jr. dies after SUV crosses center line in SC 501

MARION, SC, (April 08, 2026) – A 36-year-old paramedic was killed in a head-on collision Wednesday evening on SC 501 in Marion County.

According to the Marion County Coroner’s Office, Ralph Fulmore Jr. was driving a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck northbound near Snipes Road at approximately 5:30 p.m. when the crash occurred. Authorities said a 2015 Lincoln Navigator traveling south crossed the center line and collided with Fulmore’s vehicle.

Fulmore, who had just completed his National Registry Paramedic exam, was returning to Florence County at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

The driver of the Lincoln sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Their identity has not been released. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation.

HEAD-ON CRASH INVESTIGATION

The most frequent cause of head-on crashes is driver error. However, factors such as speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, poor roadway design, inexperienced motorists, and driver confusion can also contribute.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an estimated 40,901 people died in motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2023, representing a 4.3% decrease from 2022 and marking the second consecutive annual decline.

“Key elements that should be evaluated include roadway conditions, visibility, and lighting,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“In some cases, accident reconstruction specialists are required to determine exactly how a crash occurred. These resources are critical in helping victims or their families secure compensation for losses resulting from a collision,” added Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Ralph Fulmore Jr. could pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The grief and emotional strain after losing a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face during such times, and ensuring their legal rights are protected is crucial. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation and work to safeguard the family’s best interests.”
