SPRINGFIELD, IL, (May 25, 2026) – A 14-year-old bicyclist was fatally injured Monday evening in a vehicle collision in Springfield, according to local authorities.
Springfield Police Department officers responded shortly after 6 p.m. to the intersection of E. Cook Street and Eastdale Avenue following reports of a crash involving a bicycle and a vehicle.
Preliminary findings indicated that a teenage boy was riding his bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle under circumstances that remain under investigation.
The victim was treated at the scene before being transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:45 p.m.
Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon later identified the victim as Quaneal Leone, a Springfield resident. An autopsy determined that Leone died from multiple blunt force injuries.
Authorities said no arrests have been made, and the identity of the driver involved has not been released.
The Springfield Police Department and Sangamon County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the fatal collision.
