PRESQUE ISLE COUNTY, MI, (May 29, 2026) — A 93-year-old woman died Friday from injuries she sustained in a two-vehicle collision that occurred Thursday afternoon in Rogers Township, according to the Presque Isle County Sheriff’s Department.
The victim was identified as Helen McFalda. Authorities said multiple 911 callers reported the crash at approximately 4:20 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 23 and Petersville Road.
Emergency responders arrived to find both vehicles heavily damaged. First responders conducted an extrication to remove McFalda from her vehicle before she was transported to MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena with critical injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 56-year-old man, was also taken to the same hospital for evaluation, officials said.
Despite medical efforts, McFalda later succumbed to her injuries. The Alpena County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced her dead at 8:50 a.m. Friday.
The Presque Isle County Sheriff’s Department is leading the ongoing investigation with assistance from the Rogers City Police Department, Rogers City Fire Department, Rogers City Ambulance, and the Michigan State Police. Investigators have not yet disclosed any factors that may have contributed to the collision.
