CATALINA ISLAND, CA, (April 09, 2026) – Two men lost their lives following a small plane crash on Catalina Island on April 9, authorities said.
Daniel Sarner, 51, and Robert Cox, 54, were traveling aboard a 2014 Solaris Aviation Sling 2 when the aircraft went down at approximately 12:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. The plane had departed from Zamperini Field in Torrance at 10:53 a.m. and was last tracked at 11:13 a.m.
Officials reported that the aircraft crash-landed in a remote ravine, making access to the site difficult for first responders. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are leading the investigation into the cause of the crash.
