Pine Bluff Hit-and-Run Kills Oscar Moore, Police Say

PINE BLUFF, AR (February 14, 2026) — A fatal hit-and-run investigation is underway in Jefferson County after a vehicle struck and killed a local man Saturday, authorities said.

The victim was identified as Oscar Moore of Pine Bluff. According to the Pine Bluff Police Department, the driver fled the scene without stopping to provide aid. Responding officials pronounced Moore dead at the scene.

Police are searching for the suspect and the vehicle involved and are urging anyone with information to contact authorities as the investigation continues.

FATAL HIT-AND-RUN INVESTIGATION

According to the Arkansas State Police, hit-and-run crashes killed 89 people and injured over 2,400 others statewide in 2023. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that Arkansas experienced a 23% increase in hit-and-run fatalities between 2019 and 2023, exceeding the national average increase of 18%.

Arkansas Department of Transportation data shows that Pulaski, Washington, and Benton counties account for nearly 40% of the state’s hit-and-run incidents.

The Arkansas Crime Information Center indicated that approximately 65% of hit-and-run victims are pedestrians or cyclists, with most fatal incidents occurring between dusk and dawn.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, said that in cases like this, conducting an independent investigation promptly is critical to protecting a victim’s rights.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and establish negligence,” said Bond, a Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Factors such as roadway conditions, signage visibility, and lighting must be carefully reviewed. These steps are essential to help families pursue justice and financial compensation after losing a loved one to a hit-and-run driver.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Oscar Moore may be entitled to a wrongful death claim for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

“A wrongful death occurs when a person or entity commits a negligent or unlawful act that results in someone’s death,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. “When fatal vehicle crashes are caused by unsafe driving, aggressive or distracted driving, speeding, or impairment, surviving family members may have the option to pursue a civil claim against the responsible driver.”
