Petrick Brown Fatally Struck on Peach Orchard Road Augusta

AUGUSTA, GA, (May 13, 2026) — A 52-year-old Augusta man was killed Wednesday morning after a pedestrian crash in Richmond County, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the incident occurred shortly after 5:00 a.m. at 3130 Peach Orchard Road, in a parking lot area behind a Chick-fil-A restaurant. Investigators reported that Petrick Brown was walking east through the parking lot when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.

Brown was transported to a nearby hospital following the collision but later succumbed to his injuries.

Officials confirmed that the driver involved remained at the scene. The identity of the driver has not been released, and investigators are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Anyone with information related to the incident has been urged to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at 706-821-1000.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Regardless of fault, pedestrian-vehicle collisions overwhelmingly result in severe injury or death for pedestrians, who remain the most vulnerable road users.

According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, thousands of pedestrians are killed annually in the United States, with recent years showing some of the highest recorded fatality numbers in decades.

Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, noted that such incidents may result from a range of factors, including distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding, unfamiliar road conditions, and failure to follow traffic safety rules.

“Each case must be thoroughly investigated. Time is critical, and families must ensure evidence is preserved quickly,” Bond said. “An attorney has the resources to consult experts, review driver history, investigate insurance coverage, and conduct a full review of the circumstances to ensure accountability.”

She added that accident reconstruction may be necessary to fully understand how the incident occurred.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Petrick Brown may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“In most instances, pedestrians possess the right of way when crossing an intersection or a street, regardless of whether they are in a marked crosswalk. It is always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal.

He added that the impact of such a loss extends beyond emotional grief.

“A death in the family following an accident is both tragic and devastating. The emotional toll can be overwhelming, and the financial consequences, including lost income and funeral expenses, can place additional hardship on surviving relatives,” Formica said.
