Pedestrian Suffers Head Injury in Riverhead Crash With James D’Aguanno

RIVERHEAD, NY (July 1, 2026) — An unidentified pedestrian was injured Wednesday night after being struck by a pickup truck on County Road 58 in Riverhead, according to police.

Investigators said the incident occurred at approximately 10:03 p.m. near BJ’s Gas Station. The pedestrian was allegedly struck by a 2021 Ford Ranger driven by 70-year-old James D’Aguanno.

Responding officers found the victim lying in the roadway with an apparent head wound. Emergency crews transported the pedestrian to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.

Incident Location

PEDESTRIAN CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are more than 100,000 emergency department visits of pedestrians treated for non-fatal crash-related injuries each year.

The CDC noted that pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely than passenger vehicle occupants to be killed in a car accident. Pedestrian crashes are often the result of distracted driving, speeding, negligent driving, and road conditions that prioritize motor vehicles over pedestrians.

Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, noted that in cases such as this, it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by an experienced attorney to help protect an injured victim’s rights.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst at Accident Injury News. “Road conditions, signage visibility, and roadway lighting are all potential contributing factors that should be carefully examined. These investigative steps are essential in helping injured victims pursue the monetary compensation they may deserve during their recovery.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The victim injured in this accident may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the emotional and financial burdens following a serious injury can affect every aspect of a person’s life, including family, employment, finances, and overall quality of life.

“While no amount of compensation can erase the effects of a serious injury, it is important that victims understand their legal rights and the remedies available under the law,” Formica added. “The injured victim in this collision may be entitled to pursue a personal injury claim and seek damages for medical expenses, future medical care, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.”
