FARMINGTON HILLS, MI, January 01, 2026 – A hit-and-run crash involving a county snowplow on New Year’s Day claimed the life of a 68-year-old pedestrian in Farmington Hills, according to police.
The victim was identified as Edward Detroit of Macomb County. Investigators said Detroit was found unconscious along Middlebelt Road near Eldon Street at approximately 8 a.m. Authorities believe he was struck sometime between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m.
Detroit was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Detectives later identified a Road Commission for Oakland County snowplow operating in the area at the time of the crash and recovered evidence linking it to the incident.
Police said the snowplow driver, a 51-year-old man employed by the road commission for three years, has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of a serious personal injury accident, a felony carrying up to five years in prison.
