Pedestrian fatalities remain a serious concern nationwide despite continued safety initiatives. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), approximately 2,304 pedestrians were killed in roadway crashes in the first half of 2024—numbers experts say are largely preventable when drivers remain alert.

“In most cases, pedestrians have the right of way when crossing an intersection, whether or not a crosswalk is marked,” said Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.
