Pedestrian Cresencio Canseco dies, struck on Douglas Drive

OCEANSIDE, CA, (April 10, 2026) – A 57-year-old Oceanside man died after being struck by a vehicle late Friday night, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Authorities identified the victim as Cresencio Molano Canseco. The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. in the 600 block of Douglas Drive, where Canseco was walking when he was hit by a vehicle.

Canseco, who was just days away from his 58th birthday, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said the cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries.

No additional details about the driver or circumstances of the crash have been released. The case remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Each year, thousands of pedestrians lose their lives on roadways across the United States, a growing concern linked to driver behavior, infrastructure challenges, and roadway design. Between 2009 and 2023, pedestrian fatalities increased by 80%, while other traffic deaths rose by 13%, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association.

“In many situations, pedestrians have the right of way when crossing streets or intersections, whether marked or not,” said Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney and Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

Bond emphasized that an independent investigation by an experienced attorney is essential to help protect the rights of the victim’s family in cases like this.

“Factors such as road conditions, signage visibility, and lighting must all be carefully reviewed, as they may contribute to a crash. A thorough investigation is critical in helping families seek justice after a tragic loss,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of Cresencio Molano Canseco may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Surviving family members may seek compensation for loss of income, companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and funeral expenses following a tragic accident,” Formica said.

“Insurance companies often attempt to settle claims quickly for far less than their true value,” Formica added. “An attorney can advocate on behalf of the family to ensure fair compensation and that their rights are protected.”
