Pedestrian Cornelius Moore killed in Dodge Challenger crash SC

FAIRFIELD, SC, (April 06, 2026) – Cornelius Moore, 50, was killed Monday night after being struck by a vehicle in Fairfield County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Authorities said Moore was hit by a 2015 Dodge Challenger at approximately 10:50 p.m. on Longtown Road/State Road S-20-3, about two miles north of Ridgeway. Moore died at the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

This tragic accident highlights the risks pedestrians face daily across the country.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 7,522 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in 2022, the highest number since 1981. These fatalities made up about 17% of all traffic deaths, reflecting a concerning rise in pedestrian dangers on U.S. roads.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are among the factors carefully evaluated during an investigation,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“In some instances, an accident reconstruction team is needed to determine exactly what occurred. These resources are vital in helping clients pursue compensation for damages or losses following a collision,” said Bond, an experienced pedestrian attorney.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Cornelius Moore may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.

“The emotional impact of losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“We recognize the difficulties families face, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and interests are protected.”
