Pedestrian Aida Negahdar killed in Santa Maria accident, CHP reports

SANTA MARIA, CA, (May 03, 2026) – A 22-year-old Georgia woman, identified as Aida Negahdar, was killed Sunday night in a hit-and-run crash in the Santa Maria area, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Authorities said Negahdar was walking along Main Street (Highway 166) near Bonita School Road at approximately 8 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop at the scene.

Negahdar suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s bureau confirmed her identity.

The CHP is continuing to investigate the incident and is asking anyone with information to contact investigators at (805) 608-6310.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Leaving the scene of a crash is both dangerous and irresponsible. Failing to stop can prevent injured victims from receiving critical, life-saving assistance. In 2023, there were 2,872 fatalities linked to hit-and-run crashes. Of the 7,314 pedestrian deaths that year, 1,818 (25%) involved hit-and-run drivers, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney and a Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that must be carefully reviewed. These steps are essential in helping families who have lost a loved one pursue justice.”

Added Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News, “Drivers must always exercise a high level of care while operating a vehicle.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Aida Negahdar may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Loved ones of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.

“The stress and grief after losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face, and protecting their legal rights is critical. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the investigation and help ensure that their best interests are represented.”
