CLEVELAND, OH, (April 24, 2026) – A 22-year-old woman was critically injured Friday evening after a stolen SUV caused a multi-vehicle crash at a busy Cleveland intersection.
According to the Cleveland Police Department, officers responded to the intersection of West 150th Street and Lorain Avenue at approximately 6 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious collision. Investigators determined that a GMC SUV, reported stolen minutes earlier, was traveling at a high rate of speed before crashing into multiple vehicles.
Emergency responders, including firefighters, worked to extricate at least one individual trapped inside the wreckage.
Payton Toombs, 22, a passenger in one of the vehicles, sustained severe injuries to her pelvis and leg. She was transported to a nearby hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit for emergency treatment.
A 54-year-old Fairview Park man suffered traumatic cardiac arrest in the crash and was pronounced dead later that evening.
Five other individuals, ranging in age from 23 to 54, were also injured and taken to area hospitals with conditions reported from stable to serious.
Authorities said a 22-year-old suspect from Las Vegas was apprehended and charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault. He remains in custody on a $50,000 bond.
The Cleveland Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
