Paula Edwards Injured in Hounsfield Stop Sign Crash, Police Report

HOUNSFIELD, NY, (September 18, 2026) – Paula Edwards, 55, of Sackets Harbor, was injured Friday in a two-vehicle crash in Hounsfield involving a Honda CR-V and Honda Fit, according to police.

According to the State Police, Edwards was driving a Honda CR-V when it was struck by a Honda Fit driven by an 83-year-old woman at about 4:49 p.m.

Investigators said the Honda CR-V did not stop at a stop sign as the driver, traveling north on County Route 66, attempted to cross State Route 3 onto State Route 180.

Edwards was transported to Samaritan Medical Center for treatment.

The accident remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Traffic laws require motorists to stop at posted stop signs. However, drivers do not always follow these requirements, which can result in crashes such as the one that injured Paula Edwards.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, approximately 40 percent of car collisions occur at road intersections; the cause is usually associated with running a stop sign or stoplight.

Regardless of the outcome of a police investigation, Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, emphasized the importance of having an attorney conduct an independent review of the circumstances surrounding a crash to preserve evidence and protect an injured victim’s rights.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this and a family must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a client during this difficult time, while vigorously protecting their legal rights and best interests.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Paula Edwards may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the stress and concern following a serious injury can be overwhelming and may affect many areas of life, including family, work, finances, and overall quality of life.

“Although no amount of money can make up for a devastating injury, it is important that a victim is made aware of their rights and what they are entitled to by law,” Formica added. “The injured victim in this collision may be entitled to an injury claim, and they may seek recovery for damages including medical expenses, future medical care, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.”
