CHP: Paul Adame killed in Hwy 87 Rear-end collision in San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA, (April 19, 2026) – A 63-year-old man was killed Sunday afternoon in a multi-vehicle collision on State Highway 87 in San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The victim, identified as San Jose resident Paul Adame, was driving a 2021 Toyota Sienna northbound on Highway 87 just south of Interstate 280 shortly after 3 p.m. when a 2003 Nissan Frontier rear-ended his vehicle.

Authorities said the impact forced the Toyota into two additional vehicles, resulting in a chain-reaction crash. Both the Nissan driver and another motorist were transported to area hospitals for treatment.

Adame, a beloved baseball coach who worked for the Santa Clara Unified School District and was active with Briarwood Little League, tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

Officials continue to investigate the incident and are asking anyone with information to contact CHP at (408) 961-0900.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Several factors contribute to the rise in traffic fatalities, with driver behavior at the forefront—including speeding, impaired driving, and distractions such as cellphone use. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 8,055 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes during the first quarter of 2025.

As authorities continue to examine the cause and liability in this crash, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, stressed the importance of an independent investigation.

“Beyond the efforts of law enforcement, an attorney can re-examine key witnesses, review surveillance footage from the crash scene, and secure phone and text records from the responsible party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

In cases like this, timely action is critical to ensure that evidence is preserved and analyzed efficiently for the victim’s family.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family members of Paul Adame may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages following a tragic accident.

“We recognize that the loss of a loved one brings both emotional grief and financial hardship,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal.

“If someone has lost a family member due to another party’s negligence, it is important to consult a wrongful death attorney to receive proper guidance and pursue the justice they deserve.”
