MHP: Passenger hurt in Bench Boulevard rollover collision

BILLINGS, MT, (April 18, 2026) – A rollover crash in Billings early Saturday morning left one man injured and another dead, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.

Authorities said a Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup truck was traveling northbound on Bench Boulevard near Two Moon Park Road at approximately 1:15 a.m. when it lost control while navigating a curve.

The vehicle struck a cement barrier and overturned.

A 26-year-old male passenger from Billings was injured in the crash and transported to Billings Clinic for medical treatment. The 26-year-old male driver died at the scene.

Officials said the crash remains under investigation, with speed and alcohol being considered as possible contributing factors.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identifies speeding as a leading cause of traffic collisions, followed by impairment from alcohol, drugs, or medication, improper lane usage, failure to yield, and distracted driving.

According to the National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA), rollover crashes account for about 30 percent of passenger vehicle occupant fatalities. The risk is significantly higher in light trucks, where rollovers represent approximately 47 percent of occupant deaths compared to 22 percent in passenger cars.

Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal, stated that determining the exact cause in such crashes is essential and often requires detailed legal and technical review.

“It is important to identify all contributing factors in these incidents. An attorney has the resources to review insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and locate witnesses,” Bond said.

She added that early independent investigation is critical to preserving evidence.

“In addition to the official report, attorneys carefully evaluate all potential causes of a crash. They can bring in experts, review driver histories, locate witnesses, and assess insurance coverage while guiding injured victims through a complex process,” said Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the injured victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that serious injuries often bring significant emotional, physical, and financial strain.

“It is important for injured individuals to retain legal counsel when pursuing a personal injury claim so their attorney can handle negotiations with insurance companies,” Formica said.

“Insurance companies often attempt to minimize payouts despite the costs faced by victims. An attorney can advocate for fair compensation and ensure victims are treated properly,” he added.
