PARKLAND, WA, (October 16, 2025) – The life of a promising young woman was tragically cut short Thursday afternoon when a career criminal, attempting to evade a Pierce County deputy, collided with her vehicle in a devastating Parkland intersection crash.
Paola Parbol Arredondo, 20, a beloved daughter and college student, was killed instantly in the collision.
The 20-year-old was pronounced dead Thursday afternoon, the day after her car was struck by a suspect fleeing law enforcement near the campus of her school.
Authorities report that a deputy initiated a traffic stop on Donald Wayne Rownan, 47, near Park Street around 4:15 p.m. Rownan, driving a silver Dodge Charger, accelerated rapidly and ran a solid red light at the intersection of Garrison Avenue and 120th Street East, slamming into Arredondo’s silver Toyota Corolla. Arredondo, who was leaving her classes at Pacific Lutheran University, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Rownan was apprehended by the Washington State Patrol after attempting to flee on foot.
In addition to discovering suspected methamphetamine in the Charger, investigators determined Rownan was likely impaired at the time of the collision. He is being held on numerous serious charges, including felony murder and vehicular homicide.
The fatal incident remains under intense investigation.
