Outer Mission Hit-and-Run on Mission Street Kills Roberto Alvarez Sr.

OUTER MISSION, CA, December 17, 2025 – An 80-year-old man was killed Wednesday evening in a hit-and-run crash in San Francisco’s Outer Mission neighborhood, and authorities continue searching for the driver responsible.

Police identified the victim as Roberto Alvarez Sr. The crash occurred at approximately 6 p.m. at the intersection of Mission Street and Naglee Avenue.

According to investigators, Alvarez was crossing Mission Street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed as the traffic signal turned red. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dashcam footage captured the incident, but the driver did not stop and remains at large. The victim’s family has publicly urged the driver to turn himself in.

Officials said the crash was San Francisco’s 16th pedestrian fatality of 2025.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Despite repeated warnings, memorials, and tragic losses, hit-and-run crashes continue to rise as some drivers flee after striking a pedestrian. According to the American Automobile Association, hit-and-run fatalities in the United States have increased by an average of 7.2 percent annually since 2009.

“Thorough investigative resources are essential in hit-and-run cases to help establish negligence and accountability,” said Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“Factors such as roadway design, visibility of traffic signage, and lighting conditions must all be carefully reviewed as part of a complete investigation. These steps are critical to helping families pursue the justice they deserve.”

Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News, added, “Drivers must always exercise extreme caution and responsibility behind the wheel.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

As the investigation continues, the family of Roberto Alvarez Sr. may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. In such cases, surviving family members may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages following a fatal accident.

“The grief and emotional toll following the sudden loss of a loved one can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“Families deserve to have their rights safeguarded during this difficult process. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the progress of the investigation and work to ensure that the family’s legal interests are fully protected.”
