Orlando Yanes killed in Hicksville pedestrian crash, police say.

HICKSVILLE, NY — Saturday, November 22, 2025 — Orlando Yanes, 45, of Hicksville, lost his life Saturday night following a fatal pedestrian vs. vehicle accident in Nassau County, according to police.

The Nassau County police reported that around 7:34 p.m., Mr. Yanes was attempting to cross Jerusalem Avenue near Gem Court when he was struck by a southbound 2021 Toyota RAV4. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Toyota, a 32-year-old woman, remained at the location and was not injured. The incident is currently under investigation by the Nassau County Police Department.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The investigation into the circumstances of the collision is underway, with the Nassau County police seeking to determine what caused the driver of the Toyota to strike and kill Mr. Yanes. Data from an official report indicates the increasing risk to walkers, noting that in 2022, 345 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes, marking a 12% increase from the 307 fatalities recorded in 2021.

Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and a national analyst for Accident Injury News, emphasized the importance of a meticulous, independent investigation. Bond highlighted that, in cases such as this, the accident is often a result of factors such as distracted driving, speeding, negligence, or the driver’s failure to yield to a pedestrian. She stated that having the proper resources is vital to thoroughly review the evidence, which includes securing expert witnesses, conducting background checks, and reviewing applicable insurance coverage. These procedures ensure the family of the victim receives the justice and monetary compensation they are entitled to.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Legal analysts confirm that pedestrians typically possess the right of way when crossing a street or intersection, and drivers hold a duty to yield, even outside a marked crosswalk. Pending the outcome of the official investigation, the family of Orlando Yanes may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News, explained that the legal process can be overwhelming for grieving families. Formica asserted that a wrongful death lawyer can serve as a compassionate resource to guide the family through this difficult period. He noted that in cases such as this, a successful claim can secure damages for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following the tragic incident.
