Orlando Pickup truck collision kills e-scooter rider Colton Remsburg

ORLANDO, FL, (May 10, 2026) – A 14-year-old boy has died following injuries sustained after being struck by a pickup truck while riding an e-scooter in the Lake Nona area of Orlando, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Authorities identified the victim as Colton Remsburg.

Investigators said the crash occurred on Moss Park Road when Remsburg was riding an e-scooter and was struck by a pickup truck.

The teen was transported to a local hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries days after the collision, officials said.

Family members described Remsburg as an energetic young boy who enjoyed fishing and participating in sports. A moment of silence is scheduled at Heroes Community Park in his honor.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

E-SCOOTER ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

E-scooters have become an increasingly common mode of transportation across the United States, used both for commuting and recreation.

Data from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission shows that e-scooter fatalities have risen in recent years, with nearly 200 deaths reported between 2017 and 2023. Many of these incidents occur when drivers are distracted, speeding, or misjudge the speed and distance of smaller road users such as e-scooter riders.

Candice Bond, an experienced e-scooter accident attorney, said cases like this require a prompt and independent investigation to protect the rights of the victim’s family.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important when investigating a bicycle or e-scooter accident case and establishing whether negligence played a role,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News.

“Road conditions, lighting, visibility, and signage are all factors that must be carefully examined. Accident reconstruction specialists are often needed to help determine exactly how the crash occurred and to ensure the family’s legal rights and interests are fully protected,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Colton Remsburg may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving relatives may seek damages for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and other losses following a tragic accident.

“We understand the profound grief families experience after losing a loved one unexpectedly, and protecting their legal rights is essential,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“A wrongful death attorney will monitor the investigation and help ensure the family’s best interests are safeguarded. Relatives of wrongful death victims may pursue compensation for emotional suffering, loss of companionship, and other damages resulting from the fatal incident.”
