ANDERSON, CA, (September 28, 2026) – A 22-year-old Redding man was tragically killed Friday in a head-on accident involving an alleged impaired driver in Anderson.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the unidentified victim was driving a Nissan Xterra when it was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Onyz Young at about 11:45 p.m. on Dersch Road, west of Mossom Lane.
Investigators said Young was traveling eastbound when he crossed into the westbound lane and collided with the Nissan.
The Xterra became engulfed in flames, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A 15-year-old passenger in the Xterra escaped before the vehicle caught fire but suffered a broken right wrist and a broken clavicle in the crash.
Young was taken into custody after investigators determined that a combination of alcohol and drugs is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
