LUBBOCK, TX, (April 24, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash Friday morning near Idalou in Lubbock County left one person dead and another injured, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The collision occurred at the intersection of U.S. Highway 62/82 and North County Road 3000.
Authorities said a 26-year-old Lubbock resident was traveling southbound on County Road 3000 and approached the intersection controlled by a stop sign. At the same time, a vehicle driven by 55-year-old Michael Charles Proa was traveling westbound on U.S. 62/82.
Investigators reported that the 26-year-old driver pulled into the intersection in front of Proa’s vehicle, leading to a collision. The 26-year-old driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Proa was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock with moderate injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by DPS officials.
