NYPD Hunts Driver in Erick Lamont Bowie Hit-and-Run Death

MANHATTAN, N.Y. — June 19, 2026 — A 32-year-old bicyclist has died following a hit-and-run collision in Manhattan’s Hamilton Heights neighborhood, and the driver responsible remains at large, according to the New York City Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. near Amsterdam Avenue and West 151st Street, when a 2021 Dodge Durango sideswiped a cyclist traveling in the area. The force of the impact propelled the rider, identified as Erick Lamont Bowie, into a parked minivan. Emergency responders transported Bowie to Harlem Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The operator of the Dodge Durango fled the scene immediately following the collision and has not been identified. The NYPD is actively investigating the crash. No description of the driver or additional vehicle details have been released at this time. Anyone with information is urged to contact local authorities.

FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

In the majority of hit-and-run cases, drivers who flee do so believing they can escape accountability. However, experts and law enforcement agree that suspects typically face serious charges once apprehended.

Fleeing the scene of an accident is a criminal offense, and the frequency of such incidents is alarming — statistics indicate that more than one hit-and-run crash takes place every minute on roads across the United States.

Candice Bond, a veteran hit-and-run accident attorney, stressed that in cases like this, launching a prompt and independent legal investigation is essential to protecting a victim’s family.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that must be considered and thoroughly examined.” Bond added that these steps are critical for helping families who have lost a loved one at the hands of a hit-and-run driver obtain the justice and financial compensation they are owed.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Erick Lamont Bowie may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Loved ones of wrongful death victims can seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress in the aftermath of a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal. “We are keenly aware of what families are forced to endure in these heartbreaking situations, and ensuring their rights are fully protected is of the highest importance. A wrongful death attorney will remain closely engaged with the official investigation and work diligently to make certain that the family’s legal rights and best interests are upheld at every stage,” Formica added.
