NY State Police: Susanne Blinebry Injured in West Carthage Crash

WEST CARTHAGE, NY (June 4, 2026) — A 74-year-old Carthage woman was airlifted to a Syracuse hospital early Thursday morning after a young driver crossed into her lane and struck her vehicle head-on on State Route 26 in West Carthage, according to the New York State Police.

Troopers identified the injured driver as Susanne Blinebry of Carthage. The crash occurred just before 2 a.m. at the intersection of State Route 26 and Martin Street Road. Authorities said a 20-year-old Carthage man failed to maintain his lane, drifting into the oncoming lane before colliding head-on with Blinebry’s vehicle.

Blinebry sustained injuries in the crash and was airlifted to SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse for treatment. The nature and severity of her injuries have not been publicly specified by authorities.

The 20-year-old driver of the other vehicle was issued traffic tickets following the crash. New York State Police have not released the young driver’s identity. No further information regarding the condition of either driver has been made available.

HEAD-ON ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Candice Bond, a highly experienced auto accident attorney, stressed that in cases like this one, an independent investigation must be launched promptly alongside any official police inquiry in order to fully safeguard the rights of the injured victim.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision.”

The broader scope of this problem is significant. Vehicle crashes injure roughly 1.9 million people every year across the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the most common causes of such collisions include speeding, impairment from alcohol, drugs, or medication, failure to remain in the proper lane, failure to yield the right of way, and distracted driving — any one of which can turn a routine drive into a tragedy.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and victims must be ensured that evidence is reviewed in an efficient manner,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney will carefully examine what may have contributed to the crash and has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide accident victims during this difficult time, while protecting their legal rights and best interests.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Subject to the findings of the ongoing investigation, Susanne Blinebry may have strong legal grounds to pursue a personal injury claim seeking damages for medical and rehabilitation expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma stemming from this crash.

“Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of various expenses,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal. “Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with the mounting costs that an injured party may accrue. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes.”

Blinebry and others injured under similar circumstances are strongly encouraged to consult with a qualified personal injury attorney as early as possible to ensure their legal rights are protected and that any applicable deadlines are not missed during the claims process.
