Nohe Salazarmartinez seriously hurt in Modesto wreck, CHP says

MODESTO, CA, (July 16, 2026) – One person was killed and another suffered major injuries in a two-vehicle collision west of Modesto on Thursday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Paradise Road and Shiloh Road.

CHP said a black 2026 Rivian SUV was traveling west on Paradise Road when its driver attempted to turn left onto southbound Shiloh Road, crossing into the path of an eastbound white 2004 Toyota pickup. The Rivian collided with the Toyota in the intersection.

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities identified the injured passenger as Nohe Salazarmartinez, 32, of Patterson. Salazarmartinez sustained major injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

According to CHP, the two occupants of the Rivian SUV suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Every year, millions of people are injured in traffic crashes across the United States, many suffering life-changing injuries. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an estimated 2.44 million people were injured in roadway crashes in 2023, a 2.5% increase from 2.38 million in 2022. The injury rate remained 75 per 100 million vehicle miles traveled in both years.

While investigators continue to determine the cause of the collision and potential liability, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, said an independent investigation conducted by an experienced attorney can play an important role.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview key witnesses, review any surveillance footage from the crash scene, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide an injured victim during this difficult time while vigorously protecting their legal rights and best interests.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, Nohe Salazarmartinez may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, said the stress and uncertainty following a serious injury can affect every aspect of a victim’s life, including family, employment, finances, and overall well-being.

“It is important for victims to retain an attorney when pursuing a personal injury claim, allowing legal counsel to negotiate with insurance companies on the client’s behalf,” Formica said.

“Insurance companies often attempt to persuade victims to accept a quick settlement for significantly less than the value of the claim. An attorney can vigorously advocate for the client to help ensure they are treated fairly and receive appropriate compensation.”
