CONROE, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a vehicle accident that killed one person and critically injured three others on April 17.
The accident occurred at around 6:15 p.m. on Crockett Martin Road. A Dodge minivan, marked as an adult daycare for special needs, collided head-on with a Toyota Tundra pickup. The van was traveling south when it encountered the northbound pickup, which failed to maintain its lane.
Nicholas Barhan, 47, was a passenger in the Dodge. He went into cardiac arrest while being transported to the hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival at HCA Conroe Hospital.
Two other passengers in the van, a 37-year-old man from Spring and a 24-year-old man from Willis, were critically injured. The van’s driver was stable. The pickup driver, a man from Montgomery County, suffered minor injuries and was out of the vehicle when responders arrived.
Authorities later reported that Montgomery County District Attorney accepted charges of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle against the pickup driver.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Precinct 1 Constables assisted the Texas Department of Public Safety with traffic control.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
