Nicholas Addis killed in North Broward wrong-way head-on accident

BROWARD, FL (April 11, 2026) – A wrong-way crash early Saturday morning in North Broward claimed the life of one person, authorities said.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Nicholas Addis. According to preliminary findings, the crash occurred at approximately 3:29 a.m. on West Sample Road near the Florida Turnpike overpass.

Investigators said a 47-year-old Pompano Beach resident was driving a Nissan Pathfinder eastbound in the westbound lanes when it collided head-on with a Hyundai Tucson driven by Addis, who was traveling west.

Addis was pronounced dead at the scene. The wrong-way driver was transported to a hospital for treatment. The crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Only a small percentage of crashes in the United States involve wrong-way driving, but they tend to be especially deadly, often linked to alcohol impairment. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, there were 2,008 deaths from wrong-way crashes on divided highways between 2015 and 2018. The National Safety Council reported 5.1 million medically consulted injuries from motor vehicle crashes in 2023.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all contributing factors that must be carefully evaluated,” said Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney and Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team may be required to determine exactly what occurred. These resources are essential in helping victims or their families pursue compensation for damages or loss,” Bond added.

In incidents like this, time plays a critical role, and preserving evidence promptly is vital to understanding the cause of the crash.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family members of Nicholas Addis may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will remain informed on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
